Brunei Game Dev Community (BGDC) was unofficially formed in 28th December 2019.
The formation of the team was from the acquaintances of Rabiatul Amran , a UTB graduate in BSc. (Hons) in Creative Multimedia. Rabiatul made her first prototype 3D mobile app game for her final year project in August 2018.
She first met Omar at UTB's Creative Computing Final Year Project showcase in April 2018. Omar introduced himself to be an independent game developer with a small team and interested to keep in touch for future opportunities. Then in August 2019, Rabiatul met Abdul Matyn at her former workplace when Matyn was renting the place as his co-working space for a month. Rabiatul found out that he was a graduate from university in Malaysia and was active in developing his own games.
In August 2019, the Startup Weekend Creative Tech was organized and Rabiatul joined in the event. She pitched in her game idea in the event and formed a team of passionate learners to work together in developing the idea. The team called 'Quembara', now known as 'Quembara Interactive' managed to secure second place in the final pitch out of the ten presenting teams.
Then in November 2019, DARe in collaboration ASEAN-Korea Centre (AKC) sent the local gaming companies to a global gaming event in Korea known as the G-Star 2019. The participating companies are Itsybytes, Pixelated, Game On and Quembara Interactive.
Upon returning from Korea, Rabiatul gained inspirations to start developing the game industry in Brunei.

Local Game Companies went to G-STAR 2019, Busan, Korea
She decided to grow Quembara Interactive team and joined in DARe's Startup Bootcamp to kickstart the company. Coincidentally, she met Matyn in the programme and held mini discussion with him on forming a circle of game dev community in Brunei.

28/12/19 - First Meet Up of Brunei Game Dev Community at iCentre, Berakas
That was the moment when they set a date with Omar's team on 28th December 2020 at iCentre for a mini networking session. During the meet-up, the game developers get to know each other and were able to identify their needs to form the community of local independent game developers.
Thus, it was when the 'Brunei Game Dev Community' unofficially formed with goals to slowly make growth in the industry.
